I am founding CWG Press because I love books and I see many that deserve to be published, but that are not getting into print. Sometimes this happens because the material is too controversial for a mainstream publisher. Sometimes it's because a particular book probably won't appeal to a mass market. Sometimes it's happenstance, because it can be very hard to find a publisher willing to take a chance.
That is why there is room for CWG Press. That is why there is a need for CWG Press.
I will select books based on quality. I will publish books that I have been lucky enough to encounter, that are worthy of being shared with the world. I will do the very best that I can to select good books, prepare them, publicize them, and distribute them.
If you don't like the books I publish, you can blame me for picking them--although I don't guarantee that even I will like every book that I publish. As I said before, selection of books will be based on quality, not merely personal preference.
If you like the books I publish, you can compliment me on finding them (please do!), but the real praise should of course be extended to the authors. All I am doing is providing a stage to showcase their accomplishments. The writers have the creative genius--I'm just helping them express it to the world.
I have already mentioned the world twice in this mission statement. It's not by chance. Freedom has no borders, no nationality. Freedom starts within each one of us, and extends to everyone, whether or not we agree with their views or their methods. I will restrict no one's freedom to express ideas. I will not accept anyone's interference with my freedom. There will be no censorship at CWG Press.
Is CWG Press a religious press? A Christian Press, perhaps? No--but I will publish Christian books, or Muslim books, or any other religious—or atheist--books, if they are of good quality.
Is CWG Press a political press? Does it strive for social change? No--although I personally strive for social change. I will publish political books of good quality, whether or not I agree with them, because above all I believe in freedom of the press. Let the ideas fight it out in the public forum--it's not right for me to selectively publish only books that have the same viewpoint as I do.
Is CWG Press a free press? Yes, yes, emphatically yes ... although I am not in a position to publish free books.
